The oilsands
development has made enormous contributions
Western Canada's workforce, by creating more than
33,000 direct and indirect jobs. However
this is only the tip of the iceburg as it is
predicted that the oilsands will create a total of
240,000 new high paying jobs across Canada by 2008. Aproximately 60 percent of these jobs will be
located in Alberta - resulting in virtually
unlimited opportunities in all sectors.
15,000
Fort McMurray Jobs
From 2006
through to the year 2011, the oilsands companies
currently operating in the Regional Municipality
of Wood Buffalo have projected that over 6,000 new
permanent operations positions will be available,
and another 9,000 jobs will come open due to
attrition. That is over 15,000 jobs in the
Fort McMurray area alone over the next 4 years.
The Oilsands
companies are aggressively hiring workers with
trade, engineering, technological, management and
administrative skills.
Fort
McMurray Construction Jobs
With the
influx of workers and families to the Fort
McMurray area, the region is faced with a housing
shortage. This is not only creating an
increased demand for housing construction, but
with the ripple effect, it has also created
increased demand for support industries to serve
the rapidly growing population. All this
spells good news for the construction industry who
are experiencing a severe shortage of skilled
trades people to help meet the demand.
